Solution to the global Covid-19 crisis with Autistan’s "Masks For All"

Important update (July 2020)

The face-mask system we proposed at the beginning of April was a backup solution that was suitable when there was nothing else: the shortage of masks was total, the only shops open were food stores, so only people with women’s tights at home (or who could order them over the Internet) could use our very simple solution, by buying paper towels in supermarkets.
This emergency mask was useful for short and rare outings, at a time when almost nobody used masks.

Three months later, it has become very easy to get all kinds of masks, and people are starting to understand that they are useful (especially to protect others, which is basically the same as protecting oneself), and more and more public authorities are imposing the wearing of masks.
They are doing so with a delay which, in our opinion, will have contributed to the spread of contamination and deaths.
If the obligation to wear a mask had been in place from the beginning, asking people to make their own masks as best they could, the explosion in the number of cases would not have been so high.
This problem is still important today, since there are still many countries that do not impose the wearing of masks (and therefore, quite logically, see new outbreaks of contamination after periods of de-confinement).

We recommend disregarding absurd “political” recommendations claiming that the wearing of masks is unnecessary.
We advise everyone to protect themselves and others:
– by limiting the outings;
– by respecting the distances;
– by washing all potentially contaminated objects and surfaces with soap (or otherwise with alcohol);
– by always using a mask that does not have air leaks (these usually occur between the nose and eyes, so masks must have a metal bar to solve this problem).
You can make your own fitting for this by cutting out a few centimetres of steel wire or by collecting aluminium clips from disposable masks.
We do not recommend masks made of simple fabric, because although it is essential to protect others from droplet projections, it is also important to protect yourself from particles floating in the air.
Many disposable masks are quite effective.
They should be changed (not thrown away) after a few hours because humidity prevents air from passing through. You can carry two or three of them with you when you go out.

Our new tip N°1 (optional) :

We recommend “rotating” these disposable masks, using at least ten masks per person and waiting a few days to reuse them.
You can help yourself by writing something inside with a marker, for example :
– 1A, 1B, 1C for three masks for “day 1”;
– 2A, 2B, 2C for three masks for “day 2”;
– 3A, 3B, 3C for three masks for “day 3”;
You have to hang them so that they don’t touch each other and so that no one touches them. Normally, if the virus is present, after a few days it is no longer dangerous.
If after a few “rotations” it becomes difficult to breathe, it is because of the dust that has accumulated in the mask (which can happen very quickly in some cities).
Since it is quite difficult to find this type of mask in the “general public” shops and since professional masks should be reserved for hospital staff, you can wash some of these disposable masks (if they are not too thin) with a dish-washing liquid.

Our new tip N°2 (highly recommended) :

You can combine our April idea with the single cloth masks which are now very easy to find, i.e. by putting several layers of paper towels inside these cloth masks.
This allows you to filter much more efficiently, and it also helps to fill in “leaks” at the level of the nose.
You can carry a supply of paper towels or tissues in your pockets, and throw away the wet tissues whenever it becomes difficult to breathe.
When changing towels, you should not touch the cloth mask surfaces.
In the evening, simply wash the mask and reuse it the next day.
The paper towel trick is still the most accessible and effective, given the difficulties in obtaining FFP2 masks and their cost, which is impossible for most families to bear over a long period of time.

The “Masks For All” facial protection that we propose are very easy to make, by anyone, in one to two seconds, they cost almost nothing and they can be renewed easily.

It is by far the most accessible solution that exists in many countries.

This solves the problem of the global shortage.
With protections (masks, glasses, soap), it is possible to return to the activity without contaminating or being contaminated.

If people agreed to use this system, it would avoid terrible economic and social chaos.

These masks could be used by millions of people right now, less than five minutes after watching the presentation video clip (below).

It is obvious that this trick can save many lives.

You can put up to 3 double sheet napkins (or pocket handkerchiefs) to fold in half, which makes 12 layers, which is a very respectable degree of protection.

Theories claiming that masks are useless or ineffective cannot resist the obvious and common sense (see links at the end of the article).

Our invention is also proof that the different mindset and creativity of autistic people are useful. Everyone is useful, and human biodiversity shall be protected.

To say that our invention is a good idea is not enough: for it to serve and to save lives, it must be shared.

For those who do not believe in the need for a general policy of mandatory masks for the whole population, you can read (for example):

Masks4all : Why wear a mask

“Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz has made it mandatory to wear a mask in supermarkets, saying he knew it would be a big cultural change for Austrians.

Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis recently tweeted President Donald Trump to encourage him to wear masks: “Wearing a simple cloth mask decreases the spread of the virus by 80%! The Czech Republic has made its citizens MANDATORY on wearing a mask in public, he wrote.”

– And many other sources.

If, in a given country, masks were mandatory in public (in addition to handwashing facilities in all shops and other public places), then there would be no need for confinement and it would avoid the ruin of that country.

Moreover, confinement is not the best way to create immunity, unlike masks when they let a tiny part of the virus through.

We need to confine the virus with masks, instead of confining people to their homes.

Why isn’t this done in most countries?
Because there aren’t enough masks.
No country can provide masks that have to be changed every day for its entire population.

Yet there is a simple solution: the one we are proposing.
It can be implemented immediately, without sewing or other complicated things.
The only problem is that it is not known.
